French, Marti & Cie, Black Marble Mantel Clock, circa 1890’s. Excellent quality movement, 8-day time/strike black marble mantel clock with open escapement on the dial. Movement is stamped “Medale of Bronze” and has an exposed escapement. The porcelain dial is in excellent condition; there is a thin hairline crack around the II that I almost missed when examining it. Strikes on a bell on the half hour and the hour with a nice light sound. Etched design lines in the case retain original gilding and the case has its original patina. Close examination will show typical age related nicks; small nick on lower left corner; ½ thin chip on the right upper corner; can feel a few small nicks by running your hand over the edge. Because of the black color and patina these are not noticeable when looking at the clock. A beautiful decorative piece.
Dimensions: 17-3/4” w x 10” h x 5-1/2” d Two side pieces with the same etched design. There is larger chip on one of the side pieces on the lower edge of the top piece. Dimensions: 6” dia at top; 8-3/4” h x 4” d. We are a full service clock shop and do all our restorations in house. The movement is original to the clock and has been professionally restored; disassembled, cleaned, pivots resurfaced and polished, bushings were necessary, lubricated and thoroughly checked out.
